Syracuse, UT Concrete Lifting
Syracuse, Utah has it highs and lows. Some homes sit above the bluff and many of the new homes are being built down below the bluff closer to The Great Salt Lake. But, no matter where your home is built in Syracuse, you share a similar phenomenon – “sinking concrete”.
Recently, we helped a client in Syracuse take care of a problem with his driveway. After moving into an existing home, he had a new driveway poured and a retaining wall built to support it. But, after only a year or two, the driveway slab began to move towards the retaining wall, and a long section of it began to sink.
This sometimes happens because the soil under the concrete never got compacted well enough to support the weight of the concrete. It can also happen if the soil under the slab gets too wet. When the clay soils absorb too much moisture, they turn to “mush” and lose their strength. That’s when the concrete begins to crack and sink.
After observing the problem getting worse, the homeowner called PolyFoam Solutions to see if we could help. During our onsite consultation, we observed the problem and recommended filling the large voids under one slab and injecting our polyurethane foam to lift the long section that had sunk.
PolyFoam can support up to 7,200 lbs per square foot. 4” thick concrete usually weighs about 50 lbs per square foot, and thus, the PolyFoam has many times more strength than is needed to do the task of lifting and supporting the slab.
A date for the service was chosen and the slab was supported and lifted with no issues.
